The reason for the reorganisation
The University of Gothenburg has decided to merge the the Faculty of Science and the IT Faculty for strategic reasons and create one big Faculty. There is also a discussion whether the location on Campus Lindholmen will be financially sustainable in the long run when Chalmers University of Technology is planning to leave Lindholmen. The suggestion is that both departments leave their premises at Lindholmen within a few years.
What do the reorganisation mean for me as a student right now?
Nothing. The education continues just as usual!
IT related events such as the student career fair GÖSTA will also continue as before. The Spring Ceremony will take of as planned in 2025.
Will the merging of the two Faculties affect my degree in any way?
No, it will not affect your degree.
Will the opportunities for exchange studies be affected?
The possibilities for exchange studies will most likely be affected in a positive way, as the Faculty of Science has many exchange agreements with universities around the world that IT students eventually could benefit from.
Will I have to move to a new campus for my studies?
No, not as a current student. Even if your department will move later on, this will probably not be before 2025-26, maybe around 2029 for one of the departments.
Will the educations at the IT Faculty disappear when the departments move to a new Faculty?
No, the educations will be transferred to the Faculty of Science just as they are.
