Faculties and departments
Faculties and departments organise and run the University's educations. They handle, for example, study administration, facilities, and complaints concerning your education.
About the faculties and departments
Which department and faculty that is responsible for your education affects your day-to-day studies, as they handle study administration, facilities, and complaints related to the education.
Departments are responsible for education and research. They offer educations in one or more subjects within their field of activity. A faculty organises several departments in related subjects, coordinating resources within their area of operation, and plays a central role in ensuring and developing quality.
(There is also a university-wide administration that handles matters affecting all students, regardless of their education, such as GU cards, various study systems, and student health.)
Find your faculty and department
All faculties and departments at the University of Gothenburg have information pages on the Student Portal. Here, you can often find contact details, relevant documents, and a summary of the facilities.
It is very common for programme students to have multiple departments. While one department is always responsible for a programme, different departments may be responsible for courses within the programme. If you are unsure who is responsible for your education, you can log in to the Student Portal and visit My Page.
