This is a hybrid seminar. It can be attended in person or via Zoom: https://gu-se.zoom.us/j/64243807262

Topic: Bacteriophages – or simply phages – are viruses that infect bacteria. To resist predation, bacteria employ diverse antiphage systems, with the most famous being CRISPR-Cas and restriction-modification systems. In his talk, Professor Vasili Hauryliuk will describe how they discover and characterise novel antiphage systems with an overarching aim to understand on the molecular level how they sense the invading phage and restrict its propagation in bacterial population.

Host: Björn Burmann, Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Gothenburg.

This seminar is part of the Sahlgrenska Academy & Molecular Life Science Seminars, a series of seminars on Thursdays at 15:00-16:00. The seminars are open to anyone interested in taking part of scientific breakthroughs and projects in the medicine, health and molecular life science field. Scientists, students and other staff from GU, VGR and other organisations with the common interest of medicine, health and molecular life science, welcome!
